Germany, redirected prisoner of war cover, from Paul Fischer,
Heizer (Stoker) confined in Barracks 13, addressed to Otto Fischer
of Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 12, Replacement Battalion, 1st
Company, struck with straight-line "Service des Prisonniers de
Guerre", Kurume c.d.s. (11 Jun), and purple Japanese camp censor
stamp of Kurume, the recipient's unit address updated in red crayon
to 3. Landwehr Ersatz Infantry Regiment No. 111, 3rd Field Post
Station 165, filing fold, small repaired punch hole at right, and
some edge wear, else a fine POW cover. Fischer's rank of Heizer
places him among the German sailors taken prisoner at the fall of
Tsingtao in November 1914; the naval prisoners held at Kurume were
drawn principally from crews of SMS Jaguar, SMS Scharnhorst, SMS
Gneisenau, and associated auxiliary vessels
