1814 (May 5), British Occupation, Batavia to Samarang pre-stamp entire letter, bearing Java General Post Office Batavia datestamp with manuscript “12” inserted within and red boxed POST PAID handstamp, age-related wear with a paper split to the address panel sensibly reinforced, otherwise fine, a scarce and desirable British-period Java cover. In 1811 the British besieged and occupied Batavia and Java, administering the colony until 1814; under the Convention of London the territory was restored to the Dutch, making this usage a late example
