1927 (June 9), “SS Largeau” wreck cover from Liranga, Moyen Congo
to Eure, France, franked with 75c French Equatorial Africa
overprint tied by Liranga c.d.s. with a further strike alongside,
bearing two strikes of the black two-line handstamp “Courrier
Naufragé / Sur le Congo”, reverse with Brazzaville (24 Jun)
transit, although the vessel itself suffered little harm the mails
on board were soaked when the ship ran aground near Brazzaville on
23 June, the 15-day delay to Brazzaville reflecting the disruption
caused by the incident, fine–very fine for this, a seldom-seen
wreck cover from the Congo River.
