franking, returned cover from Berkhamsted to Singapore, franked
with a 1d scarlet Edward VII, tied by "BERKHAMSTED" c.d.s.,, to
Singapore, Straits Settlements, with "PENANG TO SINGAPORE" (16 Aug)
double circle marine sorter transit, presumably assessed as short
paid upon arrival, receiving a "T" in octagon and large "2D" F.B.G.
handstamps, later crossed out in blue crayon, two pairs of 1c
gray-green Straits Settlements Edward VII definitives were affixed
to the back, tied by two "SINGAPORE" (17 Aug) c.d.s., indicating
payment of the deficiency before the cover was returned to the UK,
upon arrival, a "LONDON S.W." (16 Sep) machine cancel was stamped
on the front, with a same-dated "LONDON S.W." circular cancel on
the back; a further "LONDON" (16 Sep) double circle transit
confirmed dispatch to Berkhamsted (17 Sep), fine and scarce.
