straight-line Paid 10 handstamp, the envelope refolded and turned
for a second use with interior addressed in manuscript to Manning,
held together with glassine hinges, side and bottom flaps missing,
a striking adversity cover. The interior corner card identifies the
sender as William Reeder of the Palmetto Guard Artillery, stationed
at Green Pond, an elite South Carolina unit that served throughout
the war including the defence of Charleston.
