BAMBERG (25 Oct 1827) departure handstamp and manuscript "affranchi
bord de mer" on face, red boxed Dutch transit DUITSCH-GRENSK: / TE
/ ARNHEM on reverse with large crowned SHIP LETTER / LONDON (31 Oct
1827) strike, total rate 1/8 for ship letter fee and inland
carriage, small imperfections along folds professionally reinforced
with archival tape, fine-very fine. The letter, written by Baron
Karl von Schauroth, a Lieutenant Colonel in the service of the King
of Bavaria, is a formal instruction to the prominent merchant house
of Frederick Huth & Co. to forward an enclosure to "Buenos-Ayres"
at the "first occasion." He notes that "already a letter under my
address was lost."
