1784 (August 28), pre-stamp folded lettersheet from Carlsruhe (Karlsruhe) to Liège, struck with scarce straight-line "DE CRUHE" origin handstamp, a late 18th-century postal abbreviation for the city, addressed in formal nobiliary style to Caesar Constantin Franz von Hoensbroech, Prince-Bishop of Liège, central filing fold and minor edge wear with small loss where seal was removed, fine.

The letter is signed by Charles Frederick, Margrave of Baden (later the first Grand Duke of Baden), and details a jurisdictional conflict with the Imperial Knights of Swabia over the territory of Gemmingen, which Charles Frederick asserts as a Baden fief.
