Lombardy-Venetia, 1863 (January 24), Mantova to Verona, folded cover franked with a 5 soldi red, cut-out from postal stationery and affixed as pre-payment of postage, broadly margined as cut, neatly tied by clear “Mantova 24/1” cancellation, with Verona c.d.s. arrival backstamp, a sound and attractive example of this unconventional but contemporary franking practice, scarce and unusual; signed Enzo Diena, with his 1987 certificate.
